Cypres AAD Maintenance
The Cypres 1 battery requires replacement by the end of the month, two years after the date of manufacture or the last battery replacement.
We send Cypres AADs to SSK for their required 4 and 8 year checks.
The process includes:
- Thorough inspection for physical defects.
- Transmission of historical data to the factory to determine if there are any issues with previous performance.
- Thourough testing in an altitude chamber to determine if the AAD is operating perfectly in a many different scenarios.
We quote 3 weeks for the turnaround, which includes shipping to SSK in Lebanon, Ohio and back. We charge $210, including shipping and reinstallation into a rig. The Cypres 1 service does not include any battery replacement. Depending on its history, the battery may or may not need replacement at the same time. The Cypres 2, however, does not have a user serviceable battery, and, presumbably, the battery is replaced during the service. Either way, the Cypres 2 battery is good until the next 4 year check.
Please be aware that the 4 and 8 year checks are required 4 and 8 years from the date of manufacture. Previous checks do not “reset the clock”. The Cypres 1 allows a ±3 month interval for the check, and the Cypres 2 allows a ±6 month interval for the check. If you have a Cypres AAD that has been in a closet from year 3 to year 7, to make it airworthy in year 7, it will still need a 4 year check, and then in year 8, it will need an 8 year check. This is done in order to promote the collection of data within a time interval that allows statistical comparisons of most or all of the AADs built in the same time frame to discover ones that are behaving out of ordinary for that batch.
